Regina “Jean” E. Waltz, age 102, of Canby, MN died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby with Father Craig Timmerman as celebrant.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 5 -7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Birk Funeral Home in Canby. Visitation will resume from 9 – 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral Home followed by a procession to the church. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Canby.

Regina “Jean” Elizabeth Waltz was born May 11, 1910 in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin to Frank and Catherine (Michalski) Gessert. She was the fourth of twelve children.

On June 12, 1932 Regina was united in marriage to John Joseph Waltz in Portsmouth, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple resided on a farm north of Canby, MN where they farmed until 1963. They built a home on the north side of Canby where Regina lived until she moved to the Sanford House in Canby. In April of 1967, John passed away. On March 26, 2012 Regina moved to the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby where she passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the age of 102.

Regina was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she was active in the Council of Catholic Women, Choir, Quilting and other activities. She especially enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and quilting. Her biggest pride and joy was her flower gardens each summer.

Regina is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeanette (Richard) Miller, Lakeway, TX; daughter-in-law, Elaine Waltz, Canby, MN; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 28 great great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; son Joe; great-granddaughter Monica; seven sisters and four brothers.
