Elaine I. Waltz, age 77, of Canby, MN passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Canby. Visitation will be Monday, June 18th from 5 – 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, MN. Visitation will resume Tuesday at the funeral home from 9 – 10 am with procession to the church to follow. Memorials may be made to the organization or charity of your choice.
Elaine Irma (Vermeire) Waltz was born May 4, 1935 in Taunton, MN, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Schmitt) Vermeire. She was baptized and confirmed and received First Communion at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton. Elaine attended District #79 country school. Elaine worked as a cook at several restaurants and also did janitorial work in Jordan, MN.
Elaine married Joseph Waltz on June 30, 1954 in Canby, MN at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Canby and in 1988 they moved to Jordan, MN. They lived in Jordan for 8 years and then moved back to Canby upon their retirement. After 53 years of marriage, Joe passed away on July 18, 2007.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where she was an active member of the CCW. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking and canning Joe’s harvest from the garden.
She is survived by her children: Douglas Waltz, Canby, MN, Dwayne (Liz) Waltz, Jordan, MN, Darrell (Julie) Waltz, Prior Lake, MN, David Waltz, Burnsville, MN, Dawn (Michael) Kennedy, La Porte, TX and Diane (Mark) Bates, Panama City, FL; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers: Donald (Doris) Vermeire, Sioux Falls, SD, Richard (Taverine) Vermeire, Baytown, TX and Dennis Vermeire, Apple Valley, MN; two sisters: Marlene (Wilfred) Hoffman, Marshall, MN and Mary Ann (Ernie) Schnaar, Canby, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Monica Waltz.
