August Wilhelm Hamer

August Hamer, age 85, of Hendricks, MN passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Hendricks Community Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks with Pastor Allen Molascon officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 24th at Birk Funeral Home in Hendricks with prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in East Hendricks Cemetery with military honors by the Rueben-Hansen American Legion Post 195 of Hendricks.

August Wilhelm Hamer was born April 29, 1927 to parents Wil-helm and Marie (Kruger) Hamer in Lake Benton, Minnesota. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. August was united in marriage to Darlene Hoff on June 5, 1955 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Hendricks, where they lived and raised their family. Darlene passed away on January 18, 2002.

August enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, fishing, playing cards and volunteering. He also enjoyed coffee time with friends, traveling and going to auctions with his brother Ernie. Most important to August was his family.

August was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Rueben-Hansen American Legion Post 195, Kiwanis Club and the Senior Center.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Rick (Pam) of Hendricks, Randy of Fresno, CA, and Carla (Mark) Solem of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Mike (Aleisha), Matt, and Nick; two brothers, Earl (Shirley) Hamer of White, SD, Ernie (Janice) Hamer of Bruce, SD; one brother-in-law, Richard (Wanice) Hoff; three sis-ter-in-laws, Donna (Eldon) Thurow, Joan (Burt) Pederson of Hen-dricks and Judy Hoff; special friend, Florence Dorn; and many niec-es and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by a son, Edwin Hamer; his parents, Wilhelm and Marie Hamer, his wife, Darlene Hamer; three broth-ers, Herbert J. Hamer Sr., Carl Hamer, Bill Hamer; one sister, Gladys Anderson; one sister-in-law, Jo Ann Hamer; two brother-in-laws Bob Hoff and Walt Anderson; and three nephews, Joel Hamer, Tim Hamer, Kenny Hamer; one niece, Lynnette Hamer.
