Douglas D. Pedersen, age 58, of Ivanhoe, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 21, 2012 as a result of a massive heart attack while fishing at Lake Benton.
Funeral service will be 10:30a.m. on Tuesday, June 26th at the Bethany-Elim Lutheran Church in Ivanhoe with Pastor Julie Anderson officiating.Visitation will be 9 to 10:30a.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery in Morris, MN.
Doug was born in Sioux City, Iowa to parents Ken and Jean (Nystuen) Pedersen.The family moved to Morris, Minnesota when Doug was 10 where he was active in Boy Scouts, baseball, softball and football. Through out the years Doug wore the number #20 in all his sporting activities and his children proceeded in wearing the same number on their jersey's for sports. After graduating from high school in 1971, Doug attended Morris University for one year and then transferred to Alexandria Technical College where he earned his degree in law enforcement. Doug was Deputy Sheriff for the Lincoln County from 1975-2004 he retired at the age of 51.
Doug was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Kay Giese on June 7, 1975.They moved to Ivanhoe in 1975 where they built their home and raised their children at. He and Mary created a successful business as artisans where they traveled around the midwest together enjoying being partners and selling their crafts. Mary and Doug were blessed with two children to whom brought so much joy and pride to their lives, Mike and Brittany.
Doug loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed telling law enforcement stories around the table or campfire, and playing games of 31 with family and friends. Doug also loved sports; especially the events where he could watch his children participate.He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and enjoyed going to games with his family.
He was a member of Bethany-Elim Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared Doug’s life is his wife of 37 years, Mary Pedersen of Ivanhoe; his two children, Mike (Lara) Pedersen of Tea, SD and Brittany ( Josh) Rasmussen of Brookings, SD; his father Ken Pedersen of Alexandria , MN; one brother, Woody (Cindy) Pedersen of Glenwood, MN; one sister, Jane (Chris) Dahlem of Stevensville, VA; mother and father-in-law, Bob (Bev) Giese of Morris, MN, brother-in-law, Steve (Carol) Giese of Morris, MN; sister-in-law, Jane (Jr.) Caperton of Las Vegas, NV and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends who will remember Doug as a wonderful husband and father.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jean Pedersen and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
