Rudolf “Rudy” Hamer, age 85, of Hendricks, MN died Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Hendricks Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks with Rev. Duane Baun officiating. Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery, Hendricks. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday, July 10th at the Hendricks Hospital Chapel with a 7 pm prayer service. Visitation will resume Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Birk Funeral Home in Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.
Rudolf August Hamer was born March 18, 1927 to parents Rudolf and Emma (Brandt) Hamer in Lake Benton, MN. In 1950, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On June 26, 1954 he was united in marriage to Pearl Kvernmo at First Lutheran Church in Hendricks. To this union two children were born, Gregory and Denise. Rudy and Pearl lived on a farm west of Hendricks, where they began farming. Rudy started the first dairy farm with a milking parlor. Rudy retired from farming in 1973 and moved into Hendricks. During this time, he started doing sales for silo unloaders and worked with Louis Sherlin as a monument salesman.
Rudy was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Western Community Action for 11 years, and Ruben-Hansen American Legion Post 195. Rudy enjoyed playing cards, dancing, fishing, watching the Twins and Vikings. His greatest enjoyment was his family and granddaughters, Chelsea and Justine.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Pearl; son, Greg Hamer of Hendricks; daughter, Denise (Hamer) Sternke; son-in-law, Ken Sternke; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Justine Sternke, all of Lino Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Emma Hamer; two sisters and their spouses, Meta (Donald) Kahnk and Ida (Ray) Kontz; and two brothers, Ted and Walter.
