Alda Lueders, age 83, of Canby, MN, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, July 21st at the Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby with Pastor Loren Kruse officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8p.m. on Friday, July 20th at Nicolai Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:30p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Nicolai Lutheran Church Cemetery, Canby. Birk Funeral Home of Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Alda Rae Lueders was born on April 3, 1929 to parents Frank and Marie (Spencer) Mitchell near Gary, South Dakota. She grew up on the farm near Canby and she graduated from Canby High School in 1946. She completed her teachers training and then taught for two years at Troy, SD.
Alda was united in marriage to Donald Misener on June 16, 1948 at Watertown, SD. To this union they were blessed with five children. They raised their family in the Troy and Strandburg area. She enrolled in LPN training at Lake Area Technical Institute in 1980 and graduated in 1982. Alda was then married to Paul Lueders on December 19, 1982 at the Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby. Paul passed away on August 29, 1985. She worked at the Away for the Day Daycare Center from 1985-1995 at Southwestern Technical College. Alda lived on the farm until she moved into Canby in 2011.
She was a member of Nicolai Lutheran Church where she was involved in Altar Guild, Lutheran Women’s Mission Legion, and quilting. Alda was also a member of the Extension Club for 50+ years, the Yellow Medicine County Fair for the school house, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was a past South Dakota state president. Alda enjoyed traveling, studying family history and genealogy. She loved crocheting and quilting; she had made over 2500 quilts, not counting the ones for family, friends and church missions.
She is survived by: daughter-in-law, Krisie Misener of Elk City, OK; four children, Rita (Bruce) Nelson of Carthage, SD, Stuart (Elaine) Misener of Elgin, AZ, Sonja (Neil) Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD, Steve Misener of Stockholm, SD; four step sons, Doug (Kathy) Lueders of Wabasha, WI, Harlan (Dawn) Lueders of Canby, Todd Lueders of MI, Brad Lueders of Canby; twenty grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Mitchell of Canby, Mavis Oellien of Madison, MN and Marilyn (Loren) Kriese of Watertown, SD; one brother, Franklin (Margaret) Mitchell of Canby and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marie Mitchell; one sister Jean Lueders; her husband Paul Lueders and one son Ronald Misener.
