Jon Axelsen, age 51, of Marshall, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at his residence in Marshall.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Birk Funeral Home in Hendricks with Rev. Dr. David Christenson officiating. Visitation will be 1-2 pm at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place in Hendricks City Cemetery.

Jon Jay Axelsen was born on October 12, 1961 in Hendricks, MN, the son of Daniel J. & LeAnn (Kragness) Axelsen. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Hendricks. Jon served his country and entered in the U.S. Army. He was married to Kathryn Holt on May 25, 1983 at First Lutheran Church and to this union three children were born; Joshua, Daniel & Kristina. After going to Minnesota School of Business, they lived in Minneapolis when Jon was employed with Prudential for a few years and then went into construction where he was a welder & pipe fitter. Jon was a member of the American Legion Post 113 in Marshall. He lived in Marshall until his passing.

Jon is survived by his daughter, Kristina and son, Joshua; grandsons, Brendan, Kaidan & Christopher; mother, LeAnn Steffen; sister, Peggy (Joe) Johnson; brother, David (Lisa) Axelsen; nieces & nephews, Blake & Kayla Johnson, Andy (Andray) Knutson and Tom Knutson, Dalton & Derek Axelsen and many cousins & other family members.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Daniel; son, Daniel; maternal grandparents, Harold & Hazel Kragness; paternal grandparents, Albert & Evangeline Axelsen.
